The Meadow Highland Games & Celtic Festival is no more
It is with great sadness, I share with you the news that The Meadow Highland Games & Celtic Festival is no more. Many of you will know it as the former Richmond Highland Games. Unfortunately we lose our State Fair, too.

Sad news indeed. I see most of the creditors are out-of-state.

Horrible news - it brought a tear to my eye, as this was the first Scottish Games event I have attended since I was a child. It was my sons' first exposure to their Celtic heritage.

I've heard through the grapevine that there is a re-organization happening creating the new Central Virginia Highland Games & Celtic Festival, October 20 & 21, to be held at Richmond International Raceway.
The Meadow Event Park is to be auctioned off May 22nd.
Stayed tuned.

I'd also heard that the Games hadn't actually died, but just needed to find a new venue with the loss of Meadows. I hope the above dates are selected, if this true, as its much more convenient for my schedule.

Bankruptcy, liquidation, sadly these words are too often heard in the context of Highland Games and Clan Gathering organisers and leave a bad taste with performers and tradesmen who make the events so enjoyable for us all but then don't get paid.
It is a sad sign of the times unfortunately. People no longer have the spare cash to travel to and attend games.
Our local games have sustained heavy losses the past couple of years and with only a few hundred pounds left in the bank we were not prepared to risk running another games here unless we could be confident of having enough left over to pay our bills, so sadly 2011 proved to be our last event and our small amount of remaining funds has been disbursed among a local pipe band and two sports clubs who have helped us in the past.

That is indeed sad Alex. We had a local Fredericksburg Highland Games that ended several years, ago.
