Well, I'm generally I'm in favor of wear what ya' want. But personally I think those shirts are too 'costumey' for even casual wear, but we often see them at various events, from weddings to Highland games

I can't outright say 'hate them' because I own half a dozen in various colors, but I assure you you won't see me sporting them outside a renfaire!

I can't speak for Cassidy, but I might be dealing with some moisture issue here....

I love them in all colors and think they look great with a kilt. They are dashing and bold and make the statement, "adventure in progress". Someone on the blog once pointed out they look like something Errol Flynn would have worn. What other recommendation do you need?

Many lassies have sidled up to me and told me how sexy my Jacobite shirt looks. But, come to think of it, they were all in the Errol Flynn generation. Hmmm?

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I suppose that no one who wears a kilt should be too quick to call another garment a “costume item”, but that’s the way I feel about those shirts.

Well, here's me in your circle then, Grizz. I do like the look of them. I owned one a couple of decades ago, but it was sold then as a "colonial" shirt, or pseudo-American revolutionary / 18th century garb.

I received it as a gift and wore here and there with jeans or corduroys. It finally met its end as a shirt and waxed several cars before leaving as used rags.

Some do look costumey, depending on how worn, but they can also look right smart. I think some of that may be due to fabric used; in a rough or knobby cloth they have the rugged backwoods look, but shiny or fine fabrics makes them Errol Flynnish.

My only gripe is that they can be very blouse-y and big; I prefer my shirts a bit tighter and not so loose, particularly if working outside.

Those ghillie/Jacobite/pirate shirts are awfully comfortable for dancing in at our Scottish Country Dance monthly parties. Theatrical? Yes Not historically acurrate? Yes. Dashing? Yes! Worn to the right venue they are great fun. Worn to the wrong one and you are the friendly neighborhhod Scottish Pirate...

OK, I've thought that some of the nicer ones looked kinda good and thought about getting one, but read some comments here and figured I don't go to many renfaires, but I think I now need one just for the chain maile clad friends I might encounter or perhaps some of the ladies of Xmarks! Also it seems like a good shirt to toss on after a summer boat ride as you pull up to the dock, then head into the bar for a cocktail.
