Well I suspected my choice was not going to fly and Sharon Small is a lot closer to my age anyway.

So for my second choice on a desert island I’ll take this lovely water tower from the Isle of Lewis.

I'd take along my MacGyver episode guide. Between the covers I could surely find a means of escaping that horrible island and getting back to my wife and kid.

A makeshift speedboat, perhaps...fashioned from my granite-like toenails and greasy hair, bound together with bodily juices and powered by the excessive methane found in my guts.

Yeah, I'm disgusting. But at least I won't be stranded like you poor gentlemen.

Eeew. No, it's the Scottish ingenuity (and frugality) that is evident throughout history--manifest in the 1980's-90's U.S. television hero Angus MacGyver:

If you're not familiar with the great man, he's famous for combining basic, ubiquitous materials and simple scientific principles to save the world or make miraculous escapes. I'd take the episode guide, which details all of these, and simply look through the index until I had enough information to build my boat.

    Take a look at this:

Now tell me I'm not getting back to my family:

A jet ski designed as a coffin. Just what will they think of next? Better leave the copy on the island when you escape. Think I might need it.

Of course I will! If you're generous enough to allow it past your strict standards, the least I can do is make its wisdom available to you.
