Scenery While Hiking
Took a half day off work today to go do some solo trail hiking at Castlewood state park, a couple miles from home. Here are a couple of pics. It's very hard to be in a bad mood on this trail.
My essentials

View of one of the trails heading to the bluffs

View when you reach the top of the bluffs

From the middle of the bluffs

From the end of the bluffs

Isn't it nice when you can take some time off work and do something that's good for body and soul? Thanks for sharing the views with us.

That's for sure! There's a lot to be said for going out and becoming one with nature, especially when you should be at work! Very cleansing. I'll get some more soon from the lower leg of this trail.
What makes this spot cool is that this area used to be a resort for the St. Louis wealthy back around 1910. On the bluffs I'm standing on, once stood weekend cottages (some of the old fireplaces still stand) and at the lower leg is a reconstructed boardwalk to get down to the river, where there was a large beach on the other side of the river that required a ferry to get to (in the area of bluff pic #2) and the few remains of the old train depot that was used to bring people in from downtown. As many as 10,000 would show during summer weekends. This was "the poshet place to be", where anyone who was anyone wanted to be seen. 100 years later, the forest has reclaimed it.

Glad to see you got a chance to unwind a bit--I know you've had a few :crap: days.
That really makes me miss the Midwest. The sad little runnels that they call rivers out here just don't cut it. What river is that? Almost looks like a fella could float a shallow-draft barge down it...
Thanks for sharing these pics, my friend. Hope stuff is gud.

Yeah, I've had better weeks! hahaha.
That's the Meramec river, and yes, they still occasionally send mining barges down it.
Things are great, now

Now that is a way to spend a day/afternoon off. I have a lot of leave built up, maybe I will take a cue from you and get out a bit more to use it! Beautiful pictures.

Very nice scenery! Makes me jealous, as I haven't had the chance lately to get out hiking like I used to.
You left out a very important bit of information, though. Were you kilted?!
