They also sell under this name too: http://www.fieldtextiles.co.uk/shopscr119.html (big lulz at the pic of the guy wearing his kilt backwards on that page!)
Yep that's just about it, ex-army kilts are like rocking horse sh*te even with the formation of RRS in 06 it would appear that most if not all the old issue kilts have been retained by either the MOD or the battalions. What size are you after smaller is better from what i've seen so far

I think the clue is in the title here. If a person wants to wear an ex-military kilt, they really need to be military sized. I gave up looking when I realised that they were all tailored for lithe (read skinny) young men and not overweight middle-aged men.

It wouldn't be used - but it would fit well - why not check with Robert MacDonald at West Coast Kilts - he learned the kiltmaker trade sewing kilts for the army.

Kathy Lare can also sew a kilt in the military style.

Kilts have got bigger as our young men have changed shape. Normal issue used to be around 28" - 30". In recent times I've seen it advance to 32"-34". I'm going to be selling off a 34" waist, (at the smallest setting), 1996 MOD issue Gordons kilt soon. It was issued in 1996 but has never been worn and still has the basting stitches. In my younger days that would have been considered large.
I was sitting at the London Scottish band table at the end of last year when the QM entered with a brand new kilt in his hand and asked "Anyone with a 28" waist want this?". We older guys exchanged glances but were all pleasantly surprised when a young piper stood up and said "I'm a 28". Those days are long gone for me, but I can still comfortably wear the kilt I was married in 24 years ago.
As to MOD issue kilts, sadly they are becoming rarer and rarer, and the situation is not set to improve.

Ahh, good catch on that photo. Now that I look more closely, it does seem that we're looking at the back of his shirt (no seam or buttons visible). Wonder why they took the photo that way, with the sporran around the back?

My waist is 33", and I have seen several MOD surplus kilts sold in that size. But what I wonder about is the length. I see many of them sold with only the waist size listed, where others have a tag that shows waist size and a height range (i.e. sized to fit a person 5'-6" to 5'-7" tall). I'm hesitant to buy one that lists only waist size, for fear that it would be made for someone much taller than me. I'm 5'-7".

Would it be able to be resized to 33"? And what is the length on it? My height requires about a 20.5" drop, so for a regular kilt with a 1.5" rise, the total length would be 22". Military kilts have a 3" rise, correct? Or is it 4"? That would mean the total length I'd need is around 23.5" to 24.5", but I'm not certain.

IIRC and I may not... The 3 measurements are waist, breech, and height all in cm...
If you're really wanting a military kilt rather than a cheap kilt, find out where the regiments are stationed... I'm sure there's a plethora available in Edinburgh that havent been snapped up by the tartan army yet...
Larger sizes are likely to be for the more rotund gentlemen in the regiment (officer's) who I believe have to provide their own uniforms, and hence own them rather than them becoming mod surplus...

I'm back from Hong Kong and passed by a local army surplus store to inquire about military kilts. He told me that they don't sell very well and so they don't bring them in anymore. He did tell me that a company called Strum supplies most of the kit for the Scottish and Irish regiments in Canada.
There is another surplus store downtown that actually had one before I left (basting stitches still in) and I'll pass by there again sometime soon.

I checked out our local army surplus shop a couple months ago and the sales person told me they don't get very many and that they are all tiny sizes.
I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.
