Sadly I think he missed his chance. There was about a one week window to order the TDK's (April 26th to May 3rd) for what 5.11 was calling a "limited run". Their website currently says they're no longer available for purchase.

I told our Asst. Chief about these, told him it would be a cool idea for our dept. Luckily I wasn't expecting a "good idea" response.

5.11 is expecting to ship the previously ordered TDKs to customers in late summer, on or around Sept. 1. According to the information that they released in their pre-order announcement to US customers, they expect to make a few extra for international customers, to replace any that turn out to have manufacturing defects, etc. Once the pre-orders have been filled, they will make any remaining TDKs available for order on a "first come, first served" basis. You (or your son) might want to keep an eye on 5.11's web site from mid-August until the TDKs ship... he might be able to score one of the "extra" kilts.
