What hat do you wear with a kilt?

I have been thinking about wearing a hat with the kilt but was not sure what would complement the kilt. So I thought I would ask here and see what hat people are sporting when kilted.

More often than not, I wear a flat cap (my apologies to Jock for the sacrelage).

The classic hat that goes with a kilt is the Balmoral (the beret looking thing with a toorie bobble on top).

Any hat you like basically. The traditional ones obviously being the balmoral or glengarrie. Both of which look grand and "traditional". However, flat caps look very nice. Ball caps can work and look very good. Anything you wish and can pull off. Experiment and have fun. Take pics of yourself and see what you think works.

England is a country, making up part of the United Kingdom of which Queen Elizabeth the Second is the Monarch.

But I do understand what you are trying to say. However, I would not attach too much significance to this dicing thing as there is no evidence that in civilian wear it has any connection to anything. It is yet another of those "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" things that has taken root over time that in reality has no foundation and is totally meaningless. If you like diced bonnets then wear one, if you don't,then don't, anything more is shear nonsense.

If I wear a Balmoral, I wear it without dicing. No offence intended or taken but I DO accept Elizabeth as my Queen but prefer my Balmoral plain... with ties a-flyin'... And I'm married too. There's no politics in that either.

To answer the OP. I also wear a canvas or rooskin bush hat if it's hot (I burn easy... It's the Ginger Celt in me), but more often than not, I'm bare-headed. I have a plain black glengarry too. Although I think it's one of the coolest hats I've ever owned, I've only worn it once meeself, it emphasises a "pipe-band" look I'm not really after although I think they are fine on other folks.

I am a man of many hats, from pith helmets to Roman Centurion's helmet, from Russian Red Army to Davy Crockett. I've not found one that I'd routinely wear while Kilted though.

I have several caubeens, of various fabrics, colors and weights,. I have a glengarry for SAMS functions. I n this climate at this time of year, often a Panama. I have a balmoral with a toorie, but it doesn't get much use. Occasionally a Greek fisherman's cap.

I usually wear a Balmoral when kilted. I have two -- one black and one "fawn" by Robert Mackie from Chris at Dunnad Trading Co. Both have matching toories, bands and cockades; both have the ribbons neatly tied and neither is diced. I wear my clan's cap badge in antiqued pewter on the black one and have an embroidered badge on order for the fawn.
Many of my clan prefer a plain Glengarry with a white rosette cockade and loose ribbons. I may add one to my arsenal just so I can be "in uniform" for clan tent duty at games.
I also very much like Jock's straw Fedora(?), Panama(?), Crusher(?). It looks like it would be nice for warmer weather and casual wear.
I have several ball caps and two Resistol "cowboy" hats, one straw and one felt, but don't wear them when kilted, for the same reason I don't wear short socks with the kilt (shudder). OK for some, but not for me.
My dad has worn flat caps for as long as I can remember. They work for him, but not for me.

I assume you mean Elizabeth, as England is a country. But regardless, whether or not you wear dicing on your bonnet has nothing to do with whether you accept the authority of the Monarch. If you wear dicing on your bonnet it can mean one of two things:
1) you like dicing on your bonnet
2) you are a member of a uniformed group (such as a pipe band) who wears dicing on their bonnets

That's about the extent of it.
