Soccer socks can be OK for kilted casual but I would think white would get dirty very quickly.

IMHO soccer socks just don't look good with a kilt.
I live in southern Ontario ( next door to Quebec) and, yes, we can get some very warm weather here (often over 30C=86F) but when that sets in I just wear sandals or as has been stated before, just short socks and shoes

I throw in lightweight tube sox, which are intended for soccer and rugby players. They're fine on the field, and they work fine with high-top boots off the field but because of where the ribbing in the sock stops, they don't look all that great with low-top shoes. However, I have also worn the brand that GGGP recommends, and those were great.
I gave a white pair of these tube sox to a friend to throw in and truth is....and this is coming from MISTER I LIKE WHITE KILT HOSE...... is that I think they look awful... not because they're white, but because of where the ribbing stops and the foot-part of the socks begins. Anyway, for wearing around town, I'd avoid them, personally.

I wear a pair of black football/soccer socks with hiking boots. They are comfortable in the warmer weather.

Why go white? Lots of solid color multisport socks to choose from out there in the world.

I prefer wool, even in hot weather, but understand why some wouldn't.

I've been wearing these. I love 'em, but I'm a smaller guy. http://www.sockdreams.com/products/d...rib-knee-highs

I'd avoid them too. They look like pretend kilt socks. If it's too hot for wool, I'd dispense with long socks altogether till the weather calms down.
