My thoughts...
I regularly wear a kilt to church, and our congregation is small enough that after a couple of Sundays, I think they now expect it.
Our church is similar in dress... With a few older gentlemen and the pastor wearing suits... (I always wore a suit and tie, despite being the youngest in the group at 42), so I almost always wear a tie and argyle jacket.
This Sunday was different as I had to leave a little early for another engagement. I treated it like business casual (nice gray dress shirt NO tie or jacket), simple brown shoes and a brown day sporran. Gray hose with gold garters. Oh, I was wearing Irish National tartan.
My recommendations are similar to tobus, my only deviation would be a light gray dress shirt (add it to your collection for work... ) it adds a fresh element without bringing too much color and a level of formality without having to sport a tie. I think the claret hose and oxfords and your semi-dress sporran would be smashing!
Good luck and post some photos!

I'm not a church goer, but I like what Tobus said although I'd likely be inclined to add an Argyll jacket if you have one. If not, not to worry.

What linedrive says! Plus...
I wear my kilt to church most Sundays. I've learned to dress it down quite a bit. Sometimes I wear a tie and sometimes not. I have a black vest that I wear (if it's not too hot) and therefore I don't need a belt (in fact I've been playing with wearing no belt at all). I go into my closet and choose any one of my shirts that tones well with the kilt. I wear black oxford shoes. My sporran is a day black leather one. My hose are neutral colours with the exception of my loden checkerboard cuff ones. I often wear charcoal hose. In my book flashes are optional and if yours are matching tartan I'd go for it. I agree with the others, leave the PC and black tie look for a much more formal occasion. Most importantly, don't over think it. Just wear it, experiment, see what works well and doesn't work well. Lay it all out on the bed and mix and mix (notice I didn't say "match") with the colour palette. My friends here have been really helpful by reminding me not to worry about matching. Have fun putting it together!

Argyll's are nice, but I hardly every wear mine to church except for special Sundays where I need to dress it up a notch. I have worn the full Argyll with vest et al for Christmas Eve and Easter and other special services during the year. But for most Sundays for our congregation, that's still too much.

No jacket. Come up with shirt, patterend tie - yes a patterned tie - and hose color combination that works. Ignore the kilt, just get your shirt tie and hose co-ordinated.
No ghille brogues, plain oxfords.
If you are really insecure about it, you may match your flashes to your tie. Otherwise, don't bother. givent eh level of formality you have described, I would go with a plain sporran, no fur.
Rep stripe ties with tatan kilts are highly recommended, and we have it on no less authority than MacMillan of Rathdowne that paisley ties go very well with tartan kilts. My wife was mortified at first, but I have broken her in gently.
You might peruse this thread, the bottom half of post four is the sort of thing I would wear to your church, and a bunch of commentary already made by others.

The two times that I have seen you I was impressed that you are a pretty snappy dresser.
I think it is important to not forget that although you are in the big city of Alburquerque, you are still in Nuevo Mexico.
Even though I have a collection of ties from my days on Park Avenue, I find that an understated bolo tie seems to work well with a kilt. I like to wear mine pulled up snug to my neck with my collar buttoned.
Whatever you decide to wear on that glorious day (and thanks for the reminder), I know that you will look FABULOUS!

I wear my kilt to church a few times a year. My advice is to wear the same style of shirt that you would usually wear with your pants. If you usually wear a tie wear it. If not, wear your shirt buttoned as you would with your pants! People will react at church the same way they do anywhere else.
Walk into the house of the Lord with the confidence that you are answering the question "What Would Jesus Do?"
Have you ever seen a picture of our Lord in bifurcated attire?

Yes. I'm just a jacket kinda guy. I'll wear a tweed sport coat with sandals.
