Despite the similarities between a balmoral and a beret, the two are not the same. If you like wearing a maroon beret with your kilt, that's fine, but if you want a balmoral bonnet I encourage you to get a balmoral bonnet.
If you do like wearing the beret and stick with that, be prepared to have people ask if you used to jump out of planes...
