Went to my first TK about 11 days ago. Brand new here. Yes, its a gimmick chain restaurant. My bifurcated roommate liked it more than I did. The beer selection was fairly wide, but not very interesting; though, they do carry Guinness & Harp. We didn't eat, so I can't speak to the food quality. The staff was very well-trained. The decor is like TGI Fridays or Applebee's, but with a United Kingdom theme.

I was surprised that I seemed to be the only kilted customer they had since opening only a few days before.

My preference runs toward genuine pubs & neighborhood bars. My roomie wants to go back. The ladies were gracious & professional, but WAY too young & tiny for me.

I gotta agree with you, and I'm definitely not a stickler.

I like the shepards pie in San Antonio. I haven't worn a kilt there yet, but, its close to where I play boxlax and we go for beers after the game. Waitresses are nice--they know most of the kids I coach.

Yeah, the one here in San Antonio is just a couple of blocks from my office. I went there for lunch one day with a co-worker, and was a bit disappointed. He had the shepherd's pie, and I had fish & chips. The food was decent (nothing worth writing home about), but the atmosphere was really cheesy. It was just a regular sports bar with a bunch of English and Irish decorations (I only saw one or two items on the wall that were distinctly Scottish). As for the serving staff, yep, it was just like Hooters but with a fake UK sports-bar feel to it.

Jock, I'm no fan, but it's a place where there are big screen TVs with the current games being played and decor all around showing momentoes and symbols of various popular teams in all leagues and in all sports. Other than that, it's a pub.

Its a pub where to drum up trade they show the footy on a big screen TV which kills the art of conversation. Generally frequented by less genteel types who drink lager, whatever that is?

Not a place where you can get a pint of Bishops finger or Old Hooky.

Yes, they are a chain so they will all look the same and the food will be the same. Food is OK. For a kilt night with a bunch of guys they are great. I attend a kilt night in Columbus, Ohio a few times a year and this is one of the spots we go to. Now if you are going to take a picture at a Tilted Kilt this is how it is done. I am in that picture somewhere.
