A Worrying sign at Geoffrey kiltmakers

A worrying sign spotted in Glasgow today. Geoffrey, the well known "Sauchiehall Street Kiltmaker" seems to have their shop To Let.

    That doesn't look good.
I shall be back in Glasgow tomorrow assisting with the vintage buses at the West End Festival and I shall make enquiries - hopefully whatever is "to let" is only part of the warehouse and office space on the upper floors and nothing to do with the kilt shop on the ground floor and basement.

Hope so, I was in too much of a hurry to ask. I can't think business is bad, there were loads of kilts out in Glasgow yesterday and this morning.

I didn't know Geoffrey had a Glasgow location!

When I spent two weeks staying in Glasgow in 2007 I did a lot of walking about and visited all the kilt places I could get to, but I don't recall seeing that shop.

Glasgow, at least in 2007, was happily free of the pile of tat shops that one sees in Edinburgh's Royal Mile. (Pakistan Mile they should rename it.)

It does seem to be the Geoffrey shop, link is here, rent is £45,000 a year.

The review of the shop in Glasgow Online is not favourable!

Over priced and obviously catering for the tourist trade! Felt I should have had a foreign accent and looking to bedressed in tartan, surprised they did not dress my suitcase in tartan as well as the man walking past with his dog outside!

Rather an ambiguous advert, the available space for renting within the building at the corner of Pitt Street and Sauchiehall Street is variously described as a retail unit, as a public house above a basement, and further down is shown as basement premises. The address of the available space is given as 309-313 Sauchiehall Street and Geoffrey's address in my Glasgow telephone directory is showing as 309 Sauchiehall Street. Could be Geoffrey's shop or just possibly another unit in the same building.
I'll see if I can find out anything tomorrow.

I notice a white on red 'To Let' sign, that appears closer to pavement level, further up the street from the corner storefront. (Look at the 3 o'clock position to the yellow traffic lights). Is it possible that is the actual location of the available space? Or is that another available space, offered by a different property agent?

I must treated first class when there last September. They had some kilt jackets in bottle green & navy on sale. Didn't have my size so the sales man called their Edinburgh store which did. They held it for me till I arrived there a few days later. It is a little off the beaten tourist path.

Mac Spadger's link seems to be listing the basement as available at 45,000 pounds

I had a drive by there yesterday, but I am none the wiser. Everything is as per MacSpadger's photograph. No evidence of any closing down sale or indication that the shop may soon close.
We can only speculate whether the available space within the building comprises the existing kilt shop or another unit.
