I agree with the comments that your picture threads are ACE - so please keep them coming, John.
In general I sympathize with 3, 4 and 5, while recognizing that they may perform a useful function for some people. C'est la vie.

    I pick

    1. I like all picture threads regardless of subject, the more photos of kilts and how they are worn, the better.

I blame the pictures for my kilt addiction. Seeing the PLEATS of a finished kilt has more effect on my decision to buy or not buy that tartan than a tartan swatch does. The pics give ideas on how to pleat that tartan too.

My only thought is photo submissions should include a pleat shot if at all possible. The pleat shot also says more about the craftsmanship of the kiltmaker than any other pic too.

And, for me, the pics help me "get to know" others on X Marks better - I think they contribute greatly to the fellowship of this forum. Most have noticed by now that sometimes Avatars are not of the person posting, more representative of their interest. Nice to see the face and kilts of posters.

Perhaps. But those irritated people have the same options as everyone else -- to ignore you, to ignore your posts, or to go away entirely. There are other kilt fora out there too.

Actually, yes. Yes, I would post a thread about going to dinner in my trousers. And I have. (Just not on XMarks because that would be off-topic). But it's called Lookbook.nu, and while I wouldn't post photos of me going to dinner in just ANY trousers, I might post such a photo if those trousers were somehow interesting, special, and wanted to show off a particular look.

Everyone is at a different juncture in their lives, and for some that may entail posting photos of themselves kilted, doing everyday things. What of it? Although I don't generally post such encouragement in these threads, neither do I begrudge them that either. I may not say so in a thread, but privately I am happy that people are doing what they enjoy and I'm equally happy to see others offering words of encouragement for them to continue doing so.

Don't live for others -- live for yourself. I would say that if there is even one member who is encouraged, enlightened, entertained, or even mildly amused by a photo thread, then it has achieved its purpose.

That is my choice. There is a good reason why I lobbied Steve to include this smiley:

Keep doing what you're doing. Keep posting photo threads. Everyone has the choice to look at them or not look at them. If it irks people, they can just turn around and leave. Just remember: illegitimi non carborundum.

I must admit, I don't go to the photos section that often, but it's mainly for lack of time. But sometimes my wife and I enjoy nothing more than sitting down in the evening and looking through a few photo albums from some of our members.

I enjoy your picture threads. As has been said already, it's a way to vicariously enjoy outings I would not have otherwise. I find I will check out most picture threads - if, after "opening" I find I'm not interested, I just move on. Everyone else is free to do the same. Lastly, I feel like if you enjoy putting the threads together, then what better place to display your travels? Keep at it!

I am particularly interested in seeing folks who have graduated from wearing the kilt the right way to wearing the kilt their way. It takes time to develop a personal unconscious style that is respectful of the tradition but encompasses the personality, context, and climate of the wearer.

You are one of several on this site who have a well developed person style and as a newbie I appreciate your photo logs.

read the question and the first page of responses.

I like picture threads. I like seeing where others live, and I like the clothing ideas. Much easier to ask for a pair of mustard hose when i see a couple pics of folks wearing mustard colored hose. Now I have a pair, and I like them.

You know what I wouldn't mind? A picture thread of shirts other than plain white being worn with a tie and a kilt. I have two colors of blue shirt and I am starting to feel limited.

We like your picture threads John… you’re ACE!!

I enjoy looking at other's kilts for ideas on which tartans I should buy. I find it quite irritating when people don't list what tartan they are wearing! As others have said, I like seeing the individual and distinctive ways others wear their kilts and accoutrements.

Conversely, I don't often post photos of myself in kilts as I think others won't be interested. And most of the time I'm the one behind the camera anyhow.

I'm actually planning on being out tomorrow evening in a kilt. I'll have one of the group take a few pictures!
