Not by any means, Martin. I have heard of several larger collections than mine. One fellow I met briefly in Scotland has something like 200, but he grabs them up from absolutely anywhere and no matter in what moth-eaten condition. Most, he told me, are unwearable!!
But, Hamish, unless you lend or hire out these kilts on a regular basis, rather than leaving them hanging in your enormous wardrobe, the public will never see more than one of them at a time. Very selfish of you! You are lining the kiltmakers' pockets (why not? There are worse people on this earth), but you are not furthering the cause (assome kilties say). By sharing out your wonderful collection, on the other hand, you could have 39 kilted gentlemen out there on the streets of Sussex every day of the year. Think of the impact that could make.
Martin! Really! Do you lend or hire out YOUR own clothes to others? These are MY clothes. I am not a Kilt Hire Company!!!! My aim (if I have one) is to build a 'Kilt Kollection' containing examples of as many forms of kilt as possible. I am fascinated by the rapid development of the kilt in my own lifetime; the modern variations on the traditional (whatever "the traditional" really is), and what its future might be. However, I must be able to wear every kilt I own - that is why they are all obtained as new (or very nearly new in a couple of cases!). Two kiltmakers (no names, no packdrill) have already expressed an interest in acquiring my 'Kollection' intact at some point in the future, but I might well have opened a kilt museum myself by then!

When will you be moving to a bigger house?
Martin,
In Grenoble, France.
I have no plans for that (at the present time) but I am reaching the point where I'll no longer be able to accommodate guests in my spare bedroom!!
