Meghan: Why not "adopt" one (or more) of the Walker tartans? There are several "clan/family" ones from which to choose. For example, see ...

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Just did a quick search and found over 1500 James Walkers in the 1871 Census - none had a wife Margaret.

Tried again with Daniel Walker - only 101 hits this time.

Taken that 1870 could be the year of registration or baptism, rather than year of birth, only two entries come into question.

    name: Daniel Walker
    event type: Census
    event date: 1871
    gender: Male
    age: 2
    birthplace: Lanarkshire
    registration district: High Church
    county: Lanarkshire
    estimated birth year: 1869

    AND

    name: Daniel Walker
    event type: Census
    event date: 1871
    gender: Male
    age: 2
    birthplace: Renfrewshire
    registration district: Tradeston
    county: Lanarkshire
    estimated birth year: 1869

Not what you wanted to hear, but maybe a starting point for further investigation.

    Regards

    Chas

I wish I could take those and run with them but Daniel was born in USA James was the one born in Scotland. All I have is the name of James, his wife, and his country of birth. I thought perhaps I could dwindle it down if I had his wife's name. Where did you search for this?

First things first. Where were James and Margaret Walker married? If in Scotland, start scanning the Scottish census records for Magaret Walker. (There are also lists of births, deaths, and marriage.) If in the USA check the census for the town where Daniel was born. Tedious, I know. But you should have some luck... hopefully.

Don't forget your extended family....any elders still alive. Quiz them for family lore or old paperwork in a shoebox in an attic. Amazing what may be lingering. Great aunts, second cousins, etc....

If they don't know ask them who you should ask. Family networking can yield great info.

    Sorry - mis-understood totally!

    I used this:

    https://familysearch.org/

If you scroll 3/4 down you come to "Browse by Location",

From there I chose the link United Kingdom and Ireland,

You then come to a monster great list of options.

All the Scottish searches are 3/4 down

    Scotland Census, 1841
    Scotland Census, 1851
    Scotland Census, 1861
    Scotland Census, 1871
    Scotland Census, 1881
    Scotland Census, 1891
    Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
    Scotland, Marriages, 1561-1910

Once you make your choice, enter the names you want. Bit of a hassle if you want to change the census date, you have to go back to the start. On the plus side it is free.

    Regards

    Chas

Any idea where Daniel was born? (Even just the state is helpful)
