I was leaning toward one of the Morrison green tartans but I ordered all of the versions of the green and the red I could find. I laid all the swatches out with clothes I currently wear and the muted red became the obvious choice. I like the weathered red as well but it just doesn’t work for my coloring.

I'm split between modern and weathered red. Both look great.

I am working on Step 4 now. The tartan takes on a different character depending on the color of the sporran. Black accentuates the thin black lines and brown causes the intersection of the red and green to look brown. I think the real question is which color I go with first because having both is probably inevitable.

That is a big question, and a very good point, concerning the sporran color affecting the look of the tartan.

Though the lighting did turn out just slightly different between these two, I think it still helps to illustrate the point:



Generally speaking, I think black is more versatile, but for someone who would mostly be wearing their kilt in a more casual setting, brown might be the ticket... especially if they prefered how brown interacted with the color of their tartan.

My tartan has made it to the top of the queue and my kilt is now under construction. Here are some of the pleating options. I decided to go with pleated to the sett.

According to Canada Post tracking my kilt has crossed the border into the USA at SFO.

I am pretty certain that is a photo of my sporran Rick, as it was the first of its type that Donnie made with the snap on a tongue vs the cigar box latch. I would be happy to lend it to you if you need it by Pleasanton. I just received another version of it a couple of weeks ago in chocolate brown with basket weave lid, rolled edge, and brass snap, my new favorite sporran!
