Looks like the official release date (at least in the US) is Sept. 11. I pre-ordered through markknopfler.com, and they did a really cool thing. I got an e-mail a few days ago stating that there was a glitch in the production of the CDs, and that my shipment would be delayed. By way of apology, they sent an e-mail with a link to a digital download of the album. I just got it set up in iTunes, so I'll listen to it this afternoon and let you know what I think sometime soon.
It's a 2-disc, 20-track album. There are also a couple of deluxe versions that include extra tracks and vinyl copies, but you have to purchase these through his web site.
It's also cool that he's got lyrics up on the site. I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to my digital tracks; I like to have as much data in the track information as I can, and having the lyrics straight from the artist is infinitely preferable to crawling the web looking for someone's (often incorrect) transcription of them. I hope more artists will start doing this.
