Need some advice?

Don't feel bad Cecil, all I have is an inexpensive acrylic kilt and some cheap hose. You do what you can when and how ya can. For my part, I hope to pick up stuff over time, as that is the only way it will happen. I hope to soon have my custom semi-traditional kilt from USA Kilts, and then it's hoping a tweed kilt jacket somehow miraculously appears...

Hey Frank, I have already started looking for new stuff, I think I have the bug bad. We have another Highland games coming up at the end of October and I will look for more stuff there. I want to have a jacket, tie and new dress sporran before we go our next cruise in Feb. Not to forget our next trip to England, Wales and Scotland next spring.

Nothing wrong with the bug Cecil. I've had it for a long time, but it was not till I went to the local games here this year that I was amazed I could buy a kilt, sporran and sporran belt for 89 bucks. I went right into the men's room and put it on, and walked the rest of the games in my new Black Watch kilt. It had been years since I'd been to the games, as it wasn't fun not being able to afford a kilt, so why go? Well, I guess over time, things have changed. It was that inexpensive kilt that got the ball rolling again, and a visit to USA Kilts a week ago last Saturday will have me in their semi-traditional kilt soon, and in Ancient Campbell. I ordered some black kilt hose from Sock Dreams (what a cool web site they have!), and with black loafers, that's it for now.

My wife and I are both unofficial family genealogists. I have a lot of Scot heritage and have wanted to get more involved for along time, but have never had much spare money. About all I could afford were dress ties in Campbell colors. Now my goal is to get to a point where I can go to a Scot dinner with a tweed jacket on and look good before I retire, which may be anywhere from 3 to 7 years away. I am very fortunate that my wife is sympathetic to my ideas!

I'm envious about your next trip to Great Britain. Maybe someday we will go. I'd love to!

Hey Frank, I know what you are saying. It took me a long time to decide on the kilt mostly because of the price. I have been going to the games for years. I just love to be around other folks of Scottish desent. I am also a amatuer genealogist. My family lines are from Scotland, Wales, England, Nothern Ireland, Germany and Native American. My surname is English from Devon but we have been in the good old US of A since 1630. Truthfully though I am most proud of my Highland side. And always in the South.

The Scots settled a good part of the south, as well as southeastern Ontario Canada, where most of my Scot ancestors came from. While I carry a French/Germanic last name from my earliest ancestor to arrive here (1749), most of them married women of Scot descent to where I now calculate that I am more than 50% Scot, even if I am a full-blooded Heinz 57 American! Like you Cecil, I am most proud of the Highland side of my heritage. My wife's family is mostly English, but with a good deal of Scot too, and her earliest ancestors arrived about the time yours did.
