Im looking at getting a tweed kilt soon.
RKilt & Keltio both make tweed kilts. Their selections are similar. The prices are the same.
I think Im leaning toward Robert because of the selections.
Where would you go?

Honestly I don't think you could lose with either! I have an 8 yd hand sewn kilt (MacNeil Old and Rare) on order with John at Keltoi, great to do business with and he's only about 45 minutes away from me. As well he was having a sale at the time that I had the cash.

I think paulhenry is worth a look. It might be cheaper to have it made in the UK and then imported as a completed garment.

A tweed kilt is definitely on my wish list, but I'd like to have a complete – rather traditional - outfit in the same tweed.
Horwood & Shaw seems an interesting option for that, and a bit more classic than 21st Century Kilts.
But there are just too many tweeds to choose from!

I have an Rkilt tweed. It was a difficult choice because both Robert and John are excellent. I can tell you the Rkilt Tweed is substantial! It has over six yards of 16oz tweed by Lovat Mills. He uses lovely large buckles and heavy leather straps. This is a machine-sewn kilt compared to John's which is hand-stitched. I think the Rkilt has a more contemporary "line" to it (in my very humble opinion) and sports reverse symetrical pleating. It comes with a triple fringe as well. It is heavy and therefore, has a wonderful swish factor. In the end I liked the colour palettes offered by the Lovat Mills Tweed. It is lovely cloth. I hope to some day have a Keltoi kilt. But in the meantime, my tweed Rkilt is very servicable, lovely to wear, and fun to create with Robert's expertise and advice. As I say, both are excellent. I think it might come down to the cloth and differences in pleating styles offered between the two kiltmakers. Have fun. Either way, you will be happy.

Here's a picture of the tweed Rkilt. The breeze caught the bottom right corner. My 13 yr old took the picture, so it is what it is! I named the weave, "Widdis" after my maternal Irish roots.

This is a very difficult choice. I have kilts from both kilt makers and they are wonderful kilts, of the two I only have a tweed from John while from Robert I have hemp. Working with both kilt makers they are both very good people as well. Perhaps you will have to order one from each. That is an enviable dilemma. PS I do not yet own a Paul Henry but I would think that is a good recommendation as well. Paul is great with sharing his knowledge and I am indebted to him for his great tutorials and the pictorials he has posted here and elsewhere.

I have dealt with both gentlemen and both are a pleasure to work with. Both do quality work and I don't think you could go wrong with either. I can't talk to the tweed kilts (don't have one - yet), but they do have different styles of kilt-making. I guess it would come down to which style you prefer.

Oh Geez, that's all I need, another nice selection of fabrics at a reasonable price!! I haven't heard of Hornwood and Shaw before, but I certainly like some of their offerings!
