    Help Me Out Gents

Since getting broadband last Friday I now appear to have a problem with "X Marks The Scot". Whenever I come to this site, "all new posts" markers do not appear, nor do the "go to new posts" markers at each subject. I have tried shutting down etc., but nothing seems to work. I did not have this problem prior to broadband. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Joe,

I've been having problems the last two days myself.

The active post links are shown when I first come to the forum, but if I click on a forum, none of the topics are marked as new, and when I go back to the Forum Index, all the active post marks are gone.

    Joe,

Who is your broadband supplier? Is it Kingston Comms? I have heard of others who have had problems with broadband from Kingston Comms, but they have monopoly rights in the Hull area and overcharge for the service (compared with others).

You could try going into the Xmarksthescot site via the message index page rather than via the home page (save the index page as a favourite). Although my ISP is not Kingston Comms, and I am not on broadband, I have found that entering via the index page preserves the 'new post' markers.

    I hope this helps.

I know a few folks have had this problem, but I have done anything differently with the site. If you want you can go to the phpBB site and search their knowledgebase to see if anything there can help.

Here is a link to their forum

This appears to be resolved now. As suggested, I made my shortcut direct to the Forum page rather than the Home page. Don't know if it was this or the fact I now click on "Log Out" prior to leaving. This was something I never had to do with dial-up connection so assume disconnecting logged me out. Would have thought this also applied to broadband but maybe not (even though I do disconnect when not on-line).

    Rob,

Yes Kingston Communications are the ISP and yes they are expensive compared to others. As you rightly state they do have the monoploy but since they have only just "rolled-out" broadband to my village (after years of complaints that we could not receive it) I'm more than happy to pay as the improvement over dial-up is tremendous.
