I have tickets to the reception friday night due to the tent hosting , but I do not want to go
to the dinner if it is all Pose , I dont do the black tie thing so well , I am more of a daywear
kind of guy. I have evening wear but it is all Bespoke and may not be good enough for there
diesires. I understand the dinner needs to be evening wear and it should be done right .
So I am opt. out on that . I wish I had someone to give the tickets too
but they do it by Name badges . I have to keep the badge to get in to the games .

Any way may try to make it to the celtic

I'm just curious as to why you think your bespoke evening wear would not be "good enough" for a black tie dinner. Seems to me like bespoke evening wear would be a step above the typical off-the-rack Prince Charlie that is the typical attire at most of these black tie dinners.

Thank you , that made me feel alot better .
I had my wife make an evening jacket from a black tweed jacket (see avatar )
But , I just thought it would not be ok . maybe it will , I think it looks ok .But did not know
... Mat are you going to the SMHG dinner ?

I wore it to the Savannah Games dinner and was the only one there in a black tweed .
I felt out of place and ate and got out . lol

Maybe I will go . dont know yet . But thank you . I will take pictures and post tomorrow
to see what the Rabble thinks

Thomas H--I'm not trying to talk you out of anything here. If you want to go to the reception, by all means do so. Personally, I like dressy affairs. Any reason to trot out my PC, the doublet, or even a tux (in non-Scottish venues) is reason enough for me.

Having said that, my experience--which is a few years old, remember--is that the reception is very dressy, and I don't think you'd be comfortable in tweed if you were uncomfortable in Savannah. That is, of course, your call.

Heck, if you can wear a 50L, I'll loan you a PC and fur sporran for the evening. Just let me know. You can stop by here on your way to the event, and I'll fix you up.

But if you prefer a more casual approach, you can wear a tee shirt or sweater to the Tavern.

Here is a Picture of me in what I have to wear for evening wear .
Sence this picture I now have Lovet blue hose I would wear instead of the for bibben
white hose, so dont mind them , and I have a goat hair sporran I can wear .
But mostly just look at the jacket and tell if you think it would be ok to wear to the SMHG dinner .

I think the outfit looks very good although it may be a little short. I doubt you'll be embarrassed, but you will likely be a little under dressed by some standards. I would counsel some lighter weight shoes for evening wear, but that's just me.

So, let me know if you want to borrow the PC. If you have a white shirt with plain collar, I can also loan a bow tie if you need one. And a belt or waist coat. I prefer the belt with waist plate to the vest, but that's a matter of taste.

Or wear your outfit. I don't know where you're staying, but Conyers is not too far out of the way if you come from Savannah. Just exit I-75 at Mcdonough and follow Hwy 20 all the way up to Conyers. I can meet you and spot you a wee dram on your way. And the backroad to Stone Mountain will likely have less traffic that the Interstates you'd likely follow otherwise.

Or come to the wee gathering here. Either way, you'll likely have a bonnie evening.

You have made the right choice, my friend. Make you wife happy. They're just stinking clothes, but she's your sweetheart.
