Inexpensive kilt hanger

I believe Burnett's and Struth sell kilt bags when you purchase a kilt. I maybe wrong but I saw them on their website a while back.

Order of the Gael sells a pretty nice bag, too. It can carry three kilts, sporrans, and belts.

I am taking down and hanging up kilts all day. One day this idea just seemed so natural that we have been hanging our kilts and teaching this to everyone we know.

The secret is not the hanger. You can hangers for free at any department store. When a skirt is sold the hanger go into a box under the counter. The sales people will almost always let you go through the box and take what you need.

The secret is folding the kilt in fourths not thirds as it is worn.

This way you are only putting a hanger over two layers of kilt instead of three or four.

The kilt in the tutorial is an 8yard, 16oz wool kilt that weighs in at a little over 4 lbs. Even this tank will not fall out of the hangers.

Free Hangers + No kilts on the floor = good.

I put all my lightweight kilts (PV and Utilikilts) on them WalMarche' hangers. If you look near the hangers you'll probably see a bag of a dozen extra clips for sale for about a dollar. That way you don't have to sacrifice clips from the other hangers and you can add as many clips as you want.

I use Order of the Gael hangers for my wool kilts and leather kilts.

I have always used a single hanger (16 inches long, made of wood, and felt lined) on my 8 yard, heavyweight kilts, and have had no problem whatsoever. Here is my hanger style:
