Just got a couple more vintage postcards, first of the Four Princes

then of a man of an unknown regiment, appears to be from the 1860s

Another old post card arrived yesterday! No name or date, but the postage required is a halfpenny!

Anyhow four unidentified pipers. This photo rewards careful study.

The “unknown regiment” OC Richard refers to would appear to be the London Scottish or (if the picture is Canadian) the Toronto Scottish. They are the only regiments with plain kilts (in hodden grey), rather than tartan.
And thank you for the picture of the four princes.
    Regards,
    Mike

    moira & haigh

In that case the photo would most likely be London Scottish
Moira & Haigh being an English photography Co
I'll not be lied to , stolen from or laid a hand upon. I do this to no man and I require the same in return.

    Estate Tartans?

It's been awhile since I've read about "estate tartans". Is that the pattern of the jackets? And the hose look light grey but shaded blue.

Yes one would think London Scottish, except that the uniform and badges don't match any images I've seen of that regiment. Note the different sporran badge for example, and the different cuffs on the jacket. It could be that early on (the London Scottish began in 1859) the uniform was different.

Here are some guys in the old days, in Glasgow

    Inverness

    Montrose

    and Cedar Rapids!

and a charming photo of two pipers with their lovely escorts evidently on their way to a gig!
