    MoD Sporran Thread Gone Missing

About 0615hrs AESDT there was a thread on the forum re some MoD brass cantles for sale on EBay, a member asked what the sporrans looked liked when issued. I then spent some time uploading photos to show them as issued and being worn. When I went to post to the thread it had dissapeared without trace, no explanation.
So in answer to the members request. I have redone my post
    Sporran as issued

Sporran after being blancoed and badged

Sporran being worn by the troops

    Sporran being worn by Royalty

Hope this is of assistance to the member who requested it

That's very neat! Thank you for thinking of me.
I believe the thread was deleted because you can't post eBay auctions in the For Sale sub-forum.

    Downunder Kilt,

I am sorry that you think the thread, as you stated, " had dissapeared without trace, no explanation."

The truth is, that the thread was deleted for contravening the sticky policy and also for being listing in the For Sale section while simultaneously being offered on EBay.

The explanation of why the thread was delete is there for all to see and the OP of the thread was notified by our staff via PM prior to its deletion.

    Thomas H,

If you are not the seller of an item and wish to alert the membership of something on EBay the appropriate sections would be the General Kilt Talk or Accessories sections of the forum.

If you are the owner of the item and wish to offer it to the membership we ask that you not list the item on the forum at the same time it is for sale on another site.
The reason is that a click of the "buy it now" button or the ending of an auction, may result in the item being sold, and no longer available, while you are still in the process of selling it to a member.

Thanks for the explanation Steve, just gets a bit infuriating when you are trying to help a member with a query, spend some time uploading some pics and as you post you get the message that post is trying to go to an unknown path. All has ended well though, cheers

Yeah, the explanation was there in the remnant of the thread title, so we knew exactly why it went away.

But like you, Downunder Kilt, I was in the process of replying to it when it was poofed. I really wish it had just been moved instead of deleted. Since it was just in the wrong forum, it seems to me that moving it would have been the thing to do, since we don't usually see threads deleted entirely for being in the wrong place.

After Steves post Tobus I went to the For Sale thread and found the notation, my bad. I did check through some of the forum topics after the deletion but didn't even think about the For sale section. Must keep on eye on what section a post is in from now on.

Granted that the post could have been moved. But in defense of the Moderator who dealt with this, he had no idea that anyone was preparing further posts for this thread. Threads in The For Sale section are not used for follow on posts.

The thread in question was contravening not one, but two rules, of the For Sale section. Follow on posts would have been a third.

The Moderator acted appropriately for a thread in the For Sale section and I support his decision.

I understand, and am sorry, that it was an inconvenience to those who wished to post to the thread.

I am the guilty party, for want of a better expression.

When we take an action it is only on the basis of what we see at the time we take the action. We cannot know who is preparing responses to it at the same time.

Inconvenience is of course regretted but I and my colleagues would appreciate it if members could familarise themselves with the terms of the sticky in the For Sale forum and we can only judge posts placed in that section on the basis of the sticky.

Too often For Sale has been abused by folk offering their items items on Ebay at the same time, there have been two instances in the past five days alone, one of which was reported to us by a member or we would not have known.

The section clearly states that it is for members offering their own items for sale so it is not the appropriate section for an altruistic heads up.
