Formula 51 revisited

I got a hold of the DVD and finally got to see the film mentioned a while back starring Samuel Jackson in a kilt.

Frankly, I couldn't watch much of it, the language was too heavy for me, as was the violence and drug scenes, a totally undesireable movie.

The ONLY thing it had going for me was to see how a big African-American strutted proudly about in his kilt, that was good to see, jackson wore the kilt well and handled accusations of sk--- wearing well.

But not even a feature on kilts could make me want to endure such rubbish any further!

Graham, your words comfort me! I quite thought I was the only person on this planet who found that language so abhorrent! Even friends of mine were not phased by it to the same extent as I was.

I find it difficult to understand why actors of such standing (and there were several in that film) should deem it advisable to become involved - but they do.

I also agree with you in that Jackson DID wear that gorgeous kilt very well indeed. He might have been acting a part, but he has stated since, on British TV chat shows, that he really enjoys wearing it at other times.

I was thinking about viewing the DVD because I did not see it when it was in the cinemas here in town. I am thankful for your reviews, you both gave me a view that "professional" critics did not take. Of course I never believe critics anyway, some of the best movies that I have seen are the ones that they had panned.

Me too Alaskan, I love 51. Being that I spent 6 years in the Corps the language is noting new to me. I can see how it can easily offend or atleast grate on the nerves of others.

I love this movie too. Love Sam Jackson, especially Long Kiss Goodnight (it's my yearly Christmas movie).

If you would have asked me in about '82, I would have agreed on the language, but since joining the Army, it doesn't phase me. Considering that background, it even makes it funnier to me.

See kids, the military can corrupt you. Yet, I would not have changed the experience for the world. 21 years now and still going. The things you learn in the Army:

How to march, stand formations, fight and kill. Patience, tolerance, discipline. Something I wholeheartedly agree all should experience. You learn a lot about yourself (and that's just a few short weeks of basic training).

Oh, I digress. Formula 51 and Sam Jackson. Great movie. Not 4 star, but fun nonetheless.

a word of caution on formula 51 after the credits there is a scene with samuel l jackson golfing and after he makes the shot he shows that he is indeed going regimental in that scene by stripping naked. although he said the directors would not let him go regimental as they did not want to have to blur any thing.

if yall have not seen pulp fiction i highly recomend it although it has no kilts in it it is hilarious and classic terintino it does have some bad language but the language does not bother me

If that ain't an understatement, I'm the Queen of England!!!

I don't think there is a single line of dialog without a cuss word or obscenity.

It does have it's moments of humor though. If you happen to be twisted enough to see it.
