I owe just about everything that I am today to my grandfather who raised me like a son. His name was Jack Hawes and fought from 1938-1945 in the following as a tank gunner with the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louises ) I joined the armoured corps as he did and I fought my war as he did and for the rest of my days I will stand proudly for having done so.
North Africa
Sicily
Southern France
Northeast Europe
Belgium
Holland
and Germany.
He is gone now, and I can easily admit that I miss him everyday. On this day even moreso than others I will remember.
