It probably needs to, Freelander! My memories of whale meat are (fortunately) fading fast, but I recall it as being rather like a salty, fishy-smelling beef!! But, for a while, it was a case of eat that, or starve!
To quote that old wartime classic song by Vera Lynn (now Dame Vera Lynn):-
