I think you've hit the nail on the head here, denmcdough.

My favourite, solid colour, kilt hose are a pair of green ones that an eBay seller threw in with a jacket I bought. They are thicker, less-stretchy, and more cabled than my other hose. Colour-wise, they are a bit darker than lovat green and have a bit of yellow marl.

For some reason, I tend to wear my beat up, old, lovat green ones the most, though!

My favourite hose are on the far left, my most-worn are on the far right.

Great series of pictures! Most illustrative. On my computer the kilt brings out a slight, but noticeable, purple hue in the cuffs of the blue hose.

I agree with your comments about the different colors and the effects they engender in the kilt. That's one reason I like to vary colors for any given tartan. My favorite, by the way, are your castellated hose.

I have always enjoyed the Lovat Blue the most since I got my first pair some years back-paired with black garters. Of course, multitudes also love this colour (ref. previous thread). However, I also enjoy my latest editions: claret and autumn glow (sandringham hose).

    Some other hose I like

Here's another pair I gravitate toward: Bowmore. This particular pair was from Chris at Dunadd.

I got those hose, the "piper socks" (made really long so that you turn over the cuff a couple times) from The Tartan Thistle. I'm not sure what they call that colour, though! The naming of blue hose is all over the map; hose called "navy blue" by the various makers can range from a brilliant Royal Blue to a near-black true Navy, and hose called "ancient blue" by the makers can range from a brilliant Royal Blue, to Lovat Blue, to Royal Canadian Air Force Blue, to Sky Blue.

Ah see I would love those hose with my Isle of Skye kilt, as the tartan has no red! But for that Black Stewart kilt I would choose anything but red, black, or white, and I would go with blue or green or yellow or whatever.

A shade of red is by far my favourite colour choice for kilt hose. Especially whilst wearing the Macpherson 'hunting' tartan.

Pumpkin Orange is one of my personal favorite hose colors. Just because they aren't that common and I feel they are an underused color for hose.

I'm also partial to most of the Lovats and Bottle greens and blues out there.

P.S. Kyle, I know you "say" you are posting pictures of your kilt and kit, but for some reason I can never see your kilt and kit when your wife is in the picture. :-)
