Will a 32" fit?
Hi.
Brand new at this forum and I have a question I hope someone more experiensed can help me with.
My husband finally this summer agreed to wear a kilt and we bought one in size 34" that fits perfect.
It was a PV irish national (his choise).
Now I found and bought him a Black watch wool kilt for christmas. The Only problem was that the only size left was 32".
And now I´m worried it will be to small.
What do you think? Will a 32" look to small on someone who normally wears 34"?
Or sholud I try to sell it and buy another one? I know he really liked the weathered MacKenzie on stillwater.
Parden my spelling difficulties and hope someone like to answer.

It depends - sorry that there is no definite answer, the only way to tell is to try it on.
Possibly wearing the kilts at different heights would make both fit, perhaps the straps will adjust to the right size on the new one, maybe the makers use different sizing methods - the only way to tell is by putting it on.

I second Anne's advice and have him try it on. If 34 is the tightest setting, a 32 may fit, just further up the straps.
Make sure you leave the basting thread in when he tries in on, just in case you need to return it. If you need to return it for a size that is not in stock, just let Jerry (Stillwater Kilts proprietor) know and he'll tell you when your size comes in.

Hi Rebeka and welcome to the forum from southampton UK. Most kilts have an inch and a half adjustment either way of the stated waist size, so you may be ok. I agree with the previous advice to try it on. Don't remove the basting stitches just in case you nred to return it.

The chances are very good that it will fit. The straps usually allow for several inches of adjustment. I recently loaned my 32" kilt to my 30" waist grandson and the fit was fine with the strap in the tightest hole.

It just might work for him. I bought an inexpensive kilt a few months ago off ebay, the inexpensive price making the sizing gamble one I was willing to make. The undersized kilt vs. my normal sizing (28 vs. 31) was only evident when I buckled the hip strap--the apron's line "scalloped" a bit. I removed the strap and everything looks fine. I have an abnormally large butt, so your fella may not even have that issue. Definitely worth trying out.

Tough call. You'll only know if it fits after he tries it on. I do think, though, that he'll be fine. One problem might be that the under apron might be too short to wrap around. I have one like that, and the under apron tends to drop down. Not too big a deal, as my wife just tacked it up. Good luck!

Thank you all for your answers.
I´ll take your advice and will give the kilt to him for christmas. And if it doesn´t fit i´ll sell it.
Some of you wrote about leavin the basting thread in. The kilt doesn´t have that. I bught it from a webbshop, http://www.clanncelt.co.uk/ They had a really good price on it.
But I hope one day I have the money to buy him a made to measure kilt.
Again, tahnk you all for your respond and wish you all merry christmas, r as we say in Sweden, God Jul!
