It appears that dupe votes are "screened" based on IP address. You can try turning off your modem (Cable or DSL box) for about 10 minutes and see if that may assign a new IP when you turn it back on. Or, use your smart phone - if it has internet capabilities - and try from different locations. My phone and iPad work through my home network (same cable IP as my laptops). When I turn off the WIFI and use G3/G4 I can/could get in a new vote every day (if I was so disposed ).

Last week we traveled a bit for Thanksgiving. Our two iPhones and iPads each had new "IP assignments" when we reached our destination. (Don't ask me how I know - winkwink).

Not surprised about the modem. But the cell system should reset the IP every day - which "should" allow a new vote each day from an iPhone. (That's what I'm seeing with AT&T - not sure about how Verizon works.)

I voted (#497) from my iPhone - and am headed out to dance class in a bit. I'll see if I can get in again from the other location. However, it's not that far away and may be in the same cell area...

    Folks,

Just my two bits here.... I do appreciate the strong show of support for one of our own members. It's very admirable and noble to do so. Please don't lose this by cheapening the act through dishonesty.

If there is a system put in place to prevent duplicate voting, circumventing what is clearly a contest rule by resetting an IP address, clearing cookies, or any other such means would violate such rules. I would hope that the ladies and gentlemen of XMarks would prefer to take the higher moral ground rather than resorting to questionable means in order to win a silly contest that nobody will remember a year from now, let alone five years from now, or more.

If it isn't letting some people vote even ONE time, then perhaps a quick email to the site admin may help resolve the issue, and maybe even bring a larger issue to light that will work in Matty's favour. I'd recommend that.

The prize is nice -- $150. But truth be told, if Matty really needs that $150 for lack of rent money, or food, or need to pay bills, I would gladly and rather give it to him out my own pocket than have people cheat to help him win.

Just some food for thought. Oh, and I went and added my vote to Matty's photo, since I hadn't done so already myself.

    JD

For those following this thread. I would like you to realize and think on something.

You are seeing the the true magic of X Marks in action.

Now imagine what you, the members of this forum, could do if you set your mind to it.

You could right a wrong when a young man is denied entry to his prom for wearing a kilt. (Yes, we did that)

You could find a loaner kilt for a piper who's kit was stolen a week before he was supposed to play at a funeral. (Yes, we did that too.)

You could find someone willing to donate a kilt to a member who lost theirs in a fire. (We did that too, twice.)

You could stop the sale of a fake Tartan. (Yep, that was us.)

You could even, through your posts, influence the manufacturers, suppliers and retailers of kilts and kilt related products. (Gee, the instances of this are just too numerous to list.)

Now ask yourselves what you want your voice to say. What do you want this forum to stand for when we speak?

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And guess how he won his new kilt?
