What a great photograph. Well done, Sir. I trust your boys? At least family?

Thanks for the information describing the difference between the kilt hose and shooting socks. I've seen links to socks of the same color, made by the same supplier and they appeared to be the same thing though with a different name. Good to know there is a difference.
However, I was a bit at a loss as to what breeks, plus 2s or plus 4s were. May be if I was a golfer it wouldn't have been a mystery.
An early google hit for plus 2s - was a slang term for breast implants adding two cup sizes, and +2 on the 1 to 10 scale. Perhaps some folks believe a guy in a kilt also gains +2 on the 1 to 10 scale. But , I figured this wasn't the correct plus 2 I was looking for and looked for another definition.
For anyone else as ignorant as myself, a link to a basic description for plus 2s, 4s, etc.

Golf, Golf, what is that? Oh when you run around all day chasing a little white ball you cant seem to hit in a straight line. What a waste of so much good cross country running land. Ha... just kidding.
My first exposure was 15 years ago to East German moleskin military knickers, which I still wear. This past year with my being kilted I also found breeks and such while looking at the shooting socks. They fit into my style so Ive since added to my knickers a few pairs of breeks and have made some plus 2's from some corduroy pants. I think I actually get more odd looks while wearing my breeks and hunting socks than when I wear my kilts.
I do find a golf course is quite a good place for cross country running....

Given the fact that the Bowmore hose are sold as both "kilt hose" and "shooting stockings," I think ol' Jock might have a good point here. Personally I prefer the larger turn-downs so I don't have to mess with folding my flashes over etc. But I will admit the bowmore style throws me for a loop every time I try and wear them (which isn't very often unfortunately, given their thick, extra-cushion sock bed and my sub-tropical latitude), to wit:

Left leg there is with one fold... ***? A little generous, eh wot? And the right leg takes a funky 3(?) folds to get to a regular kilt hose look. The foot bed of these hose are really for boots, ie their extra thick, but they definitely look good with the brogues, too.

The benefit of a large(long) turnover is that the flashes usually only stick out a wee tad which is better, by far, than the "wind-sock" effect.

Thanks for posting that photo Deil the Yin! I have those identical socks and they fit the same on me, and I was going to take just such a photo to demonstrate.
I have a pair of plain "kilt hose" which are just as long, and have to be folded in the same way to fit.
About shooting parties, it's hard to beat this one, in 1869

Just so you know. Those chaps are going shooting----we are in Scotland after all------. On the other hand, hunting in the UK is done with a pack of hounds(10/20 + couple) and the participents are usually (not always) mounted on horse back.

with high glossy boots and red jackets? That's the image I have anyhow.
I changed "hunting" to "shooting" in my post above, thanks for the clarification in nomenclature!
Here "hunting" is done on foot, in camouflage... West Virginia is 90% forest and teeming with millions of deer and everybody goes Deer Hunting in Season.
Check out this map! Note how much more likely you are to hit a deer in West Virginia than anywhere else in the USA

You have got it! ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Although red(hunting pink)is the most common it is not always the colour and it depends on the hunt. Sometimes its yellow(lemon), sometimes green, sometimes blue.
