For todays adventure, I wore my tried and true MacDonald Modern with a plain white shirt, festive tie, and black waistcoat with a wonderful gold railroad open faced pocketwatch that belonged to my grandfather (circa 1920). To top off my love dome, a navy blue Robert Mackie accompanied by my plain cromach.

Was kilted (Black Watch SportKilt) on a three hour drive today from our beach home to Baltimore. In Baltimore I changed to my USAK Celtic Nations because of the "festive" colors - then went out with my wife and her sister to: 1) a wine tasting at a newly opened store, 2) a pub in downtown Baltimore to get in some holiday spirits* (to get ready for) 3) a Christmas concert by the Baltimore Jazz Ensemble. After the concert we went back to the pub for a late dinner.

I received a couple of nice compliments this evening. The owner's wife at the wine tasting took two photos and asked permission to post them on their new Facebook page. (If they show up there soon I'll post here.)

Ah, Mael, Cooper, and Mizzou, sounds and looks like a good kilted Friday for you all!

Mine was, well...kilted. But not so festive. Only a trip to Target with my wife in my Black Watch. Did get a couple of positive comments while shopping, one woman near the escalators who loved that is was a "real kilt" (assume she meant not a utility-type which are more common around) and later an Englishman at the next checkout over was pretty happy about it.

Love the idea of a bear bell substituting for a sleigh bell. Next week I must don my santa cap, a nicer shirt and possibly a waistcoat for Friday's outing!

I think the Santa hat and waistcoat will make all the difference. Please make sure you post some pictures. Would love to see it. I think I shall dig out my Santa hat and join you on this one.

Well, kilted Thursday and Friday, but no santa hat or waistcoat. Maybe this weekend...Had a very nice chat with another person of Scottish descent while shopping on Thursday for Christmas presents. She seemed to like the kilt a lot. Then comments from another clerk about "Kayne" wearing a leather kilt as some type of tv awards show. Friday kilted, low key but comfortable. A woman was pointing me out to her 4 or 5 year old and explaining that my family was from Scotland...even though she didn't know or ask me. At least she guessed correctly!

Wore my kilt at work and all over town, today. Alabamians have been characterized by the media and Holywood as being uncultured, intolerant rednecks - - - but of the hundred or so folk I came into contact with, today, I received nothing but compliments. Not a single ugly look or rude comment. Did get a couple of giggles from some older women, but not malicious at all. I got several compliments. I heard "I wish I could talk my husband into wearing a kilt" a couple of times. One person even said, "I love the tartan - is that Black Watch?" (It is.) A friend, originally from England, walked by asking if I had been working out but didn't remark on the kilt. Most people didn't seem to notice the kilt, actually. I wasn't disappointed by this, at all.

I'm sure the day will come when I'm heckled by an insecure jerk, but Day One kilted was a great experience. It convinced me to pull the trigger and order a Nightstalker sporran as well as flash and socks, which I believe will complete the look but didn't want to invest in until I was sure I'd be comfortable sporting the kilt in public.

The wine tasting event was finally posted on FB. Here is a photo (to prove it really did happen) of my better half and me - in my attempt at being casual in a USAKilts Celtic Nations Casual...

Yes it is a great day to be kilted, as is any day. Drank a couple Shock Top End of the World beers last night, I hope they find a reason to make it a part of their regular offerings, very tasty. Wearing my Ogilvie Hunting today with claret shirt and claret hose w/ green flashes.
