Should be good.
I know that it is just pinned up to see the effect, so the photo is not as it will be done, but do make the front curve as smooth and rounded as possible for best effect. That looks to be a very nice jacket.

Apparently the forum is broken or my phone is broken so I cant see page 2. Appologies if I repeat what's already been said...
A Stafford jacket is going to be fused not canvassed which is good for your first try... The single vent shouldnt pose a problem, I'm sure if we look hard enough we'll be able to find a kilt jacket that was sold with a single vent so don't let that worry you too much. If you don't like it with a single vent, as you say you can sew it up...
You will learn a lot from taking a jacket apart... There are some curve templates in my pictures if you're interested...
One piece of advice would be that since you'll have the lining loose you might want to nip the waist a little using that center seam... Kilt jackets are usually a little more waisted than sports jackets...
