    Overcoat suggestion? (for tomorrow)

We are going to an event tomorrow night downtown. I will be kilted (argyle and vest), but was wondering about an over coat. I have a nice dress coat, but it will likely go below the knee. Will that look weird? I feel like my gov. issue pea coat would be too informal.

Or should I nix it all and wear a scarf and tuff it out?

Put your "dress coat" on. You will hand it in to some sort of cloakroom when you get to the event, wont you? The only person who will be concerned how it looks is you and you will at least be warm for the short journey to and from your car!

In colder climates, you don't give it much thought.

I believe the most traditional overcoat worn with the kilt would be an Inveness cape. These come below the knee, just like your top coat. So you'll be fine.

How about a Navy pea coat? That would go nicely, I'd assume. I ordered one, so I'll know shortly.

Thanks for the advice. A warm front came through this evening, so I didn't need it. Thanks again!

A bit late to the party here, but you know, in situations such as this, common sense trumps sartorial elegance every time. There is absolutely no merit in being cold if you don't have to be.
