Curling Kilted

Since moving up here to Canada I have been introduced to curling. For some reason that sport is not popular where I am from in Texas.

Being a Native Texan I would find it hard to squeeze out the sports of horse shoes, washers and 42 (dominoes) let alone chili cookoffs but it would be fun to travel up north and do some curling. It happens to be one of my favorite Olympic sports I enjoy watching. I did have the enjoyment once of teaching some British mates how to play horseshoes at Chilcoot Charlies in Alaska, that was quite a fun time.

Quite a few women's teams curl kilted. A famous one being the Nova Scotia rink of Colleen Jones. Don't know why you guys think you can't do it.

Decided to try crouched delivery and stick assisted. Stick is easier on my knees and I dont draw attention to myself when I wince trying to stand up after a crouched stone delivery.

While the concept of curling fascinates me, it seems rather remote from South Africa.
I am told the game is like lawn bowling on ice.
Like Texas, this is a land with little snow and ice.
Nonetheless there is a great interest in ice skating and, in some centres, in ice hockey (we find it strange that the game played on grass or artificial turf is called field hockey in your country).
The city where I live used to have an ice rink, and quite a few folk have expressed regret that it has closed down, but my propensity for falling on the ice has left me, so to speak, cold (brrr!).
The most intense ice hockey following in the country is to be found in Gauteng.

I use to curl, as a wee lad, but never saw anyone wearing a kilt ( tho' they probably couldn't have afforded a kilt, in those long-gone days ) , so I was curious when Dixiecat mentioned lady curlers, wearing kilts - so I googled it, and found this:

- I guess "men-in-tights" was my first thought ... and tho I guess there is no "real" reason that a "real man" couldn't wear black long johns, under a kilt whilst curling, a bit more searching found some examples of men in kilts, curling:
