    Bruce of Kinnaird Tartan

Just a quick question about this, as I can't seem to find a definitive answer on the origins of the tartan.

I'm getting married in the summer and want to wear Bruce tartan, and whilst looking at my options have come across Bruce of Kinnaird, which the other half prefers to the standard Bruce tartan.

Is this an appropriate tartan for a Bruce, and if anyone knows anything about the tartan, it's origins etc, that'd be great to know as well.

    Ta in advance all

Authorised by the then Lord Bruce of Kinnaird in 1953.
I think that is your definitive answer.

That's a nice tartan. I would be courious to see a weathered version. I'm kind of a sucker for weathered/reproduction colour schemes.

Oh but no! '......taken from a coat in the possession of the Bruces of Kinnaird believed to date from the mid 18th century. Authorised by the then Lord Bruce of Kinnaird in 1953.'

I saw the coat at an exhibition some 20 years ago. From what I recall I believe it was Wilsons' cloth which would fit with the setting which has all the hallmarks of their designs. Compare it for example with their Dundee and you'll see the similarities.

Mods - suggest this is moved to the Tartan thread.

Bruce is my family tartan... I prefer it to Bruce of Kinnaird, not that I have a Kilt in the latter...

The one I do have is Bruce Modern in Lochcarron Stome (16oz). It's 8 yards and knife pleated to sett and was hand made for me by a nice lady from Scotland. It is a most versatile garment. I can wear it anywhere and everywhere... and do. It is my favourite.

I'd go for the red one again if I were to make the choice over.

English Bloke, I would like to compliment you. All of your kilts that I have seen are really sharp.
