Traditional and traditional - I don't really see any difference between the tweed jacket and cords or other trousers I wear sometimes and the day kilt jacket. Both are my daily dress, although I prefer the 'philabeg'!. For any black or white-tie event, it's always the kilt.

PS: I'm astounded! It's not that village in Argyll that has palm trees on the promenade, is it?

I guess I should of read before I voted. Voted for the MUG but afterwards read what I should have read first. My only kilt is a Sport Kilt in Law Enforcement tartan that I wear at the traditional height but the other clothes I wear with it are contemporary. Should have voted - Traditional kilt both traditional and contemporary ways.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Houston was 109 F (43 C) in September 2000 and tied in August 2011. We average about 95-100 days per year above 90 F

I marked myself as traditional/traditional and I think that category is a solid fit for me. The only thing I would qualify is that I often wear a kilt informally but still in a tradtional way with kilt hose a leather sporran and usually a sweater ( jumper). In very hot weather (which we do get in central Canada) I may be in a polo shirt but somehow to me that is as casual as I can feel comfortable in a kilt.

If I have to dress down from this level due to weather or dirty work that needs doing I slip into another style of dress I am also a fan of and my favourite retailer is my local Tractor Supply Company store.

Well... Oklahoma City recorded 113F last year which marked the highest recorded temperature since 1936. Likewise, that day we had a low of 84 (or something like that) which was the highest "low" temp since the late 1890s... This was during a summer with over 100 consecutive days of 100+ temps.

I am with Zardoz...given those temperatures, a polo IS traditional attire.

I voted Traditional kilts only, but sometimes contemporary attire. I mean, I have been know to wear my kilt to a hockey game with an appropriate hockey sweater to represent my favorite team ;-)

I fit near one end of the definition provided for traditional kilt. I have an eight yard hand sewn kilt in 13 oz. wool and another kilt planned which will be a four yard hand sewn box pleat in 16 oz. wool. I might consider a higher yardage traditionally constructed MM PV but that is about it.

So I wouldn't say hand sewn wool only but I wouldn't stray too far from there.

I am not trying to start a discussion on what traditional means just suggesting I fit at one end of the definition the OP provided (which was his choice and I hope folks continue to respect that).

I wear the kilt with applicable footwear and headgear, and layered clothing appropriate for the occasion and anticipated weather conditions.

Voted both, both ways. Mr. Casual here, under evil infuence of the rabble, has aquired 2 black Spencer jackets with a third coming - Best fitting gets the celtic buttons. Also Rocky is having a traditional black Summer Flex Argyll jacket and vest made for me. Still thinking on the shirts to go with the jackets/vests for semi-formal - most collars wreak my fine braided hair. Mock turtlenecks or Nehru collars?
Non supportive hose and brogues are out of the question. Have colored support socks and my leather walkers just might take a shine.
I will be dressing up my daily t-thirts with some vests that are on order. Never was too keen on wearing the tartans with them last summer. Tartans just look too dressy for a plain top - without a reason to be clad thus. Half looked ready to go somewhere the other half ready to mow the lawn.
PM me with ideas so we don't trainwreak this thread (also)

61 kilts, 34 modern by the definitions, only two high maintainance wool.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Have to go with Traditional kilts worn traditional and contemporary ways along with the Modern kilts.
My modern kilts only consist of two El Kommando hiking kilts and the running kilt I made. I also wear a Stillwater standard kilt for running too. So these fit in the Modern kilt ways of dress because they are accompanied by running shoes and socks and shirt. Winter adds a bit more like a fleece vest and headband. For a quick run to the grocery or hardware store the El Kommando kilts cant be beat. And of course they are used for hiking, what they were made for.

I have my Bonnie Heather Greene tank in German Heritage along with two Black Stewart PV, two Black Watch wool, 1 Hamilton Grey, 1 Saffron wool, 1 Modern MacKenzie PV from Scotland and 1 Stillwater Weathered MacKenzie standard kilt. These have all been dressed up very traditional with button shirt, vest, kilt hose etc and casually dressed with raggwool sweater, leather bomber jacket, leather vest and such. When I go out to pub, movie, dinner, guests house or theater I always dress with nice wingtips(natural tan, brown or black) Kilt hose, sgian dubh, belt, appropriate sporran, nice shirt or sweater, tweed waist coat and charcoal tweed jacket. I dont skimp on the accessories like sporran, sgian dubh, garter ties etc. The only time I do that is in my daily walk to work where I do wear kilt hose(3 pairs of thick charcoal gray, 2 pairs of burgundy bought so I dont wear scrunched short wool socks to work). Here I just wear an elastic band to help hold them up. I also tend to wear a t-shirt when I walk to work. I may do the same to the grocery and usually I have my 2.5 inch web belt and nylon cargo sporran from Stillwater. Plain leather shoes or when it is snowy or icy Wolverine 8inch tall boots. I do casual very well, always have, but also clean up nice when I do go out. As I make my own vests and eventually tweed jackets I will be a bit more properly dressed when I go out.

Regardless of how I dress it traditionally up or down I always wear my kilts with pride and I always get smiles and compliments from men and women.
