I really like your notion and the coloration of the tartan. What about a more weathered look perhaps. A difficult balance as you know the colors in this region are very stunning and dramatic, at the same time they really change thru the seasons. I think it depends on which season you would like to focus. The greens here are not at all subtle in the Summer. They almost shine with the light. Of course I would favor a late Fall look that was very weathered. But then it would look some like an ancient Buchanan tartan which I suspect we both like. Either way looks like fun and a good idea.

When I was designing a tartan, I used a very basic image editing program to cut and paste it into variations of pleating to the stripe. You could probably even do that in a word processor. Give it a try, as it will help you see your design in a different way...

Adding a simple 2-thread white border stripe between the gold and the red, seems to help brighten the gold just a touch, for those who might appreciate that, without harming the blended progression through the colors, that I wanted to preserve.

In sequence, the Modern, Hunting, Ancient, Dance, and Granite variants...

Thanks. They've been a lot of fun to play with.
I just wish I could afford to have swatches of ALL of them produced, for the STR to record, when I register them. I can see for any one, but not all. Would cost too much. LOL
