I happed to stop by my local Walmart (San Antonio) tonight and I spotted a rack of these jackets on sale for $50. Wanting to know what all the fuss was about I meandered over to check them out. After selecting one that was closest to my size I tried it on. I must say that it fit very well in all the right places and looked pretty sharp. However, after about a minute I felt like I was in my car in August cover in fire ants. It was the hottest, most itchy jacket I have ever tried on. This is not a southern climate garment. This also tells me I don't even need to think about getting a heavy weight kilt.

My guess is it isn't the heat but the humidity. Here in super dry El Paso I've had no problems with tweeds or heavy weight kilts. Of course when the temperature is 110 F you don't want to be out in the sun regardless of what you're wearing.

I've looked on the Harris Tweed site and found the jackets under their classic collection tab: the same jackets at the Walmart are on the site (linkhttp://www.harristweedscotland.com/shop-online/). After paying a scant $50, not sure that I'd want to pay $600 for the same jacket.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

My brother called to inform me that today he stopped by a Walmart in/near Sacramento and the Harris Tweed jackets had been reduced to $25?

There weren't many left and in only two colors (gray/blue, tan/brown), but he snatched up a gray one. I asked him to go by tomorrow and buy a tan one for me, if they have it in my size.

Update: Just got the bad news. The Sacramento Walmart is sold out. The good news is that my brother is going to send his to our own vmac3205 (Victoria) for a conversion.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I still have not seen any, and I'd sure like to. I have a brown herringbone Harris tweed jacket that is my fall/winter go-to with brown or tan slacks. Would love to pick up a gray or charcoal one to wear with black/blue/gray.
