That looks fantastic!

That jacket would look great with a Royal Stewart kilt, and there is long precedence for such. The pipers of The Black Watch did so in the early to mid 19th century: kilt and long plaid of Royal Stewart tartan, doublet of Black Watch tartan.

Interesting kilt you have in the first picture. It appears to be the tartan with the lighter shade of green as worn by Sergeants and Officers of the Argylls, and now worn by The Royal Regiment of Scotland. And you have the rosettes worn by Sergeants and Officers of The Argylls, but I don't see the embroidered panel.

I know some will lament about too much tartan, etc., but I can recall the unit veterans in their tartan jackets and pants, as well as the occasional one in tartan jacket with kilt.

Yes, it may look good also with a tweed, or plain kilt.

I don’t like kilt pins; always getting caught on something. I was not an officer with unit, commissioned later, thus just wear rosettes without a panel. A number of Canadian units wear the lighter green Argyll style, although often the ranks have darker kilts, and I expect other Commonwealth units use the Argyll lighter colour as well.

This kilt is a SWK Black Watch Tartan Economy Kilt in100% Wool, a good deal, and it is pleated to the green, although knife pleats. My other government tartan kilt is now too big, and I moved the buckles once already (ya), but I recently scored a Royal Regiment kilt off an xmarker.
