Curious, I wonder if the seller had it nickel plated or if the info is incorrect? - I was given to understand that the officer's version (MkIII) was SILVER plated.

I'm with you on this Scott, the plating on the cantle is in too good condition to be original. It is not in keeping with the obvious age of the bag. The repair at the rear seems to have been plated at the same time as the rest of the cantle. Also, as you say, originals were plated in silver.

Over the past few months MoD sporrans have gone for between GBP103.00 and GBP290.00 on Ebay UK

Well spotted, Mike! One other thing that got me- most of the original exMoD cantles that I've seen have a pretty good set of wear marks by the strap loops from the sporran strap. This one has a repair and NO apparent wear...
More than a bit odd, IMO, but that's just my $0.02.

It would have been better for me to finish reading this thread before I just ran off to Ebay and bought the thing. Well Scott you'll get a good look at it when I send it to you for a new bag.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, a good nickel finish will tarnish less easily than silver, and most people won't be any the wiser, plus, it's still a reasonably sound price for an item that keeps fetching higher prices all the time.

Drop me an email and we might be able to consolidate a shipment.
