Choice of footwear

Choice of footwear when going casual in a kilt. I personally think combat boots or DM's look good, but what about other footwear? Uggs? Training shoes any big no nos?

Failing all that, I personally recommend some stiletto heels -- Louboutins or Jimmy Choos, but only if you got the legs for it! ;-)

I've worn boots, slip ons, and Birks. My most casual are the new low profile running shoes. This was at the range w my son, in my Army tartan:

It's usually no issue for me, because I don't wear a kilt casually, but formally (I'm a piper), so it's always ghillies or buckled shoes.

But when I attend rugby events I'm running up and down the stands all day so I just wear my usual trainers... doesn't look good, but I'm not concerned with how they look.

Actually now that I see that photo, those trainers look terrible, especially with the black hose. Well I was too drunk to care most of that day.

If I'm dressing "pub" casual I frequently wear my DM 8-eyes and hose scrunched down, usually with a jumper/sweater henley, perhaps a polo if it's warm out.

If I'm dressing "nice" casual I'll wear a pair of black brogues (not ghillies) with hose up, with a nicer sweater and button down.

For me it's barefoot half the time and the rest I will wear boat shoes, sneekers with low socks or slip-ons.

I always wear a pair of polished, black leather brogues (not the Ghille kind) from Loake for either casual or more formal day wear. I don't really alter my footwear in any case, with the exception of wearing bar and buckle brogues with my Highland evening attire (black or white tie). What I will alter; however, is whether or not I wear a tie, jumper, tweed jacket and/or waistcoat, etc. Below are a few examples of my "casual" wear when it comes to Highland dress. You can't see my footwear, but in both photos I am wearing plain, black leather brogues.
