If I have matching flashes for my clan kilts I wear them, usually. But sometimes I wear a complimentry color just to be different. Also I just learned that my spelling is worse than normal after 10 fluid ounces of Speyburn single malt.

The spelling will correct itself after 12 oz .

Frankly, (said Frank) I wouldn't even bother getting tartan flashes with any new kilt. I did with my first one (based on the little I knew then!) but now I only use the self-ties, usually keyed to pick up a minor colour in the tartan, or else just red because... because they're red.

Luckily the old ways, the old Highland aesthetic, still holds sway in the Army.

I don't see any red in this kilt! But the Army has always worn red flashes regardless of tartan

likewise here in a catalogue from the 1930s, red flashes for all, including a green & white tartan kilt

and here, in 1930, red flashes all around regardless

Why not get some traditional red flashes and be done with it?

Exactly. By the way, if you tie them extra tight and your legs get overheated as a result, you can then call them "hot flashes."
