If you will only wear your kilt at special occasions = rather rare, I should, like Toby, say go for the best. However, if you are wearing your kilts on a more regular basis, kilt hose costing $75 for a single pair should be a factor on most budgets, because even expensive socks are worn out.

I have several times bought kilt hose from Brevin&Co. You get 10 pairs for £40. They are of an acrylic/wool blend, meaning that they are pretty durable and available in two sizes and seven colors. Only problem: If you have long lower legs they may not be long enough. Also they are not very thick, but during spring and summer it is an advantage, I think, compared to thick hose.

*** I got a four back of these and they seem like a good value for the price, wore a pair to the symphony tonight.
