I have some PV kilts (as well as wool and acrylic) that I love, and the fabric feels more like a gaberdine, and nothing like a worsted wool.

I don't collect stamps, but sending off an SASE for a swatch sounds like a good solution. I definitely needs a couple of knocking around kilts and the reviews of the PVs have been generally positive. Thanks, gentlemen.

PButts, you won't be disappointed. P/V is not a bad material. If you know what to expect and are under no dillusions then you will be thrilled!!

I have one PV kilt from USA Kilts and hope to acquire another one (or two, or three...) fairly soon. As others have noted already, PV isn't worsted wool, but it is very comfortable, easy to care for, and a perfectly reasonable alternative to the lighter weights of wool tartan as the raw material for a kilt. Well made PV kilts also look good; if sufficient yardage is used to make a traditional / semi-traditional kilt, most people will never know that you're not wearing a classic wool kilt unless you tell them.

I have three of the HOS kilts and two P/V from USAkilts. The USA are the semi-traditional and a casual. I look at the HOS/Buyakilt.com as a everyday work in the yard taking the dog for a hike kilt, kind of like a pair of jeans purchased from Wal-m***. I hope and try not to ruin them but if it happens I'm not broken hearted. My P/V semi-trad from USAk I kind of look at like maybe khakis or a nice pair of slacks for a date night or going to church. The USAk casual has really become my go to kilt for comfort after work, going out to BBQ or the many summer events that take place here in Reno. I can put the right accessories with it and most people won't even know the difference between it and a wool kilt. That said once I hit and maintain my goal weight for a year I'll will be purchasing a "tank" for those special occasions i.e. The symphony or opera.

That's exactly why I want a chance to feel the fabric first, so there's no room for disappointment. As always, it's great to hear lots of opinions first.

I have a couple of MM PV kilts and a 1.5 to 2 inch hem gives additional stiffness where most usefull and does not impact the swing. The material also takes a nice press and as mentioned does not wrinkle unduly. Also have a couple of 16 Oz. wool Lochcarron which I also like.

One thing that is a bit frustrating about P/V is that none of the tartans (to my knowledge) that are associated with our clan (Shaw/Chattan) are available in P/V...only wool, nor are any of the tartans associated with any of the other Scottish surnames in our family.

    Phooey patooey.

About a year ago I bought a hardly ever used 4 yard casual PV kilt made by USA kilts. The tartan is American Heritage. The original price must have been $119 (kilt 99 + hip surplus 20).

The guy I bought it from had to sell it because his wife wanted it out of the house. Not because of the fabric, but because she hates her husband in kilts (and other skirted garments).

The kilt doesn’t quite feel like wool, and the fabric is slightly shining. I guess it is due to the Teflon coating, but probably I’m the only one to notice. I like the kilt and my dear wife thinks it looks good.

It has the advantage over the cheaper off the peg kilts that instead of the otherwise standardized 24” you can get it in the length you prefer, and still at a reasonable price.

In my case it has what USA kilts call “Jeans Waist Length” – being two inch shorter than “True Waist Length” – as well as three belt loops accommodating a men’s ordinary belt. For a kilt like this I happen to like the short cut, but should probably have preferred wider belt loops.

By the way, due to the Velcro closure it is also the perfect kilt for flying – no disturbing metal parts when you pass through airport security.
