    My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family...

    This brings back memories of when my father passed away several years ago..

    While in the hospital bed barely clinging to life my father tried to get up from the bed, my mother asked him where he was going, to this he replied... I'm going home, a few moments after laying back in bed he passed away.

    Indeed he was going home....

    At the funeral my mother wore bright white in lieu of the traditional black, her speech to everyone gathered was an explaination that she wore white in celebration because my father has moved on to be greeted by our maker, to rejoin his father, grandfather, brothers, and mother, and that is no reason to mourn, but a time to celebrate a loved one moving on to paradise.

    So in great celebration I raise a pint of my finest ale to a fellow kilted brother who goes before me to a better place.

    For Turpin, his family and multitude of friends, a poem I have always turned to in times like these.
    He see when their footsteps falter,
    when their hearts grow weak and faint;
    He marks when their strength is failing,
    and listens to each complaint;

    He bids them rest for a season,
    for the pathway has grown too steep;
    And, folded in fair green pastures,
    He giveth his loved ones sleep.

    He knows that they oft are longing,
    for home and its sweet repose.
    So He calls them in from their labors,
    ere the shadows round them creep.
    And silently watching o'er them,
    He giveth his loved ones sleep.

    He giveth it, O, so gently,
    as a mother will hush to rest
    the babe that she softly pillows
    so tenderly on her breast.
    Forgotten now are the trials
    and sorrows that made them weep;
    For, with many a soothing promise,
    He giveth his loved ones sleep.

    A lyric from an old song comes to mind.

    "On my way to better things!
    I've found myself some WINGS..."
    (The Guess Who)

    May Turpin be welcomed into the next realm and all those who mourn him, be comforted.

    Please add my name to the long list of folks that will miss a true Scotsman by the name of Turpin. We are on this earth only for a very brief amount of time and a huge requirement is to touch peoples lives in a positive way. Turpin did just that! I met him several times at the Stone Mountain games and took this picture . I also met him at Grandfather Mountain last July at the XMTS hookup. Words are a lousy method of expressing sadness and sorrow but unfortunately its about all we have. I will pray for Turpin's soul and let his family know that I am thinking of him and them at this difficult time. Mattie

    I've been meaning to say thanks to Jim for posting the picture of Turpin. For my money, it's about as fine a portrait of someone
    as I've seen in MANY moons. If you only had that picture to know him by, you'd have more than many would get in a casual meeting.
    Somehow, it has caught so much of him, and in so many directions, that I'm just grateful. With careful study, I think anyone could
    feel they know him.

    It's with great sadness that I read of Turpin's passing. His contribution here showed him to be a true gentleman. My deepest condolences to Beverly, McFarkus and the rest of his family.

    The 'Parting Glass'

    Of all the money that e'er I had
    I spent it in good company
    And all the harm I've ever done
    Alas it was to none but me
    And all I've done for want of wit
    To mem'ry now I can't recall
    So fill to me the parting glass
    Good night and joy be to you all

    [Chorus]
    So fill to me the parting glass
    And drink a health whate’er befalls
    And gently rise and softly call
    Good night and joy be to you all

    Of all the comrades that e'er I had
    They're sorry for my going away
    And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
    They'd wish me one more day to stay
    But since it fell unto my lot
    That I should rise and you should not
    I gently rise and softly call
    Good night and joy be to you all

    Fill to me the parting glass
    And drink a health whate’er befalls
    And gently rise and softly call
    Good night and joy be to you all

    La La

    But since it fell unto my lot
    That I should rise and you should not
    I gently rise and softly call
    Good night and joy be to you all

    [Chorus]

    Good night and joy be to you all.
