Clearly one man’s meat is another man’s poison. I like the bright (not garish) colours of the old Waterford, while the new version looks appallingly muddy, despite the presence of quite a lot of yellow.

Is the below the new toned down version?(found with the tartan ferrett) If so, it might be just the ticket to get me into a new kilt and her into a sash.

Now I'm off to start hoarding pennies

Not sure exactly what the second "longford" is you have shown there or where it came from, but that is a different tartan. The only thing we're doing with Longford is decreasing the large white stripe in the middle (thinning it out a bit). That being said, the colors in that one are actually not as bright as that picture lets on. It's tough to get a good representation of it, but the yellow is a standard "muted gold" color. Here's a pic I took with my cell phone of the actual cloth... the gold is even a bit MORE muted in real life:

    Weird. It's from the STA

an error in recording perhaps? Of possibly the wires got crossed somewhere along the way, because blue & yellow is what I've always seen, and the only other tartan that comes up in a "Longford" search is the HoE version.
I definitely like your new version better than the old.

The one I took a picture of is the "old" version that is currently available. The only difference will be that the center wide white stripe will be reduced by 50%. The colors of my cell phone pic will be the same as the material whether it's the new or old version. If you like the picture of the physical cloth, then you like the tartan!
