I usually wear blue flashes with my claret hose ( I don't have any mustard flashes/garter ties) As for a necktie, I usually wear the ABF (Army Benevolent Fund) tie, thanks to Jock Scott, with any and all kilts I own or one of my old school ties (striped as in a regimental tie). I tend not to intentionally colour match/co-ordinate my hose, flashes and tie colours.

I was looking for a way to accentuate the yellow line without being too "matchy matchy".
I have not seen many people wearing blue-based tartans (99% of my kilting experience was at the MacLean clan gathering, so it was red and green all the way), so any advice with accessorising the blue is appreciated.
Also, I have no school tie, or organisational alliances which would have provided me with a "uniform" tie, so that part is pretty much open to whatever I am comfortable wearing.

Congratulations, that is an awesome looking tartan and I know that Paul Henry will make you an amazing kilt!

Thanks, with any luck it will arrive just in time for Tynwald day, and my father's 70th birthday party is the following night. I have put in a lot of time researching who I should get my kilt made by, and with all due respect to the other great kilt makers out there, I was really impressed by Paul's abilities and his insightful replies to my emails. I shall "share the love" however, and get a 5 yard Manx Hunting kilt from another maker (Rocky is in my sights at the moment).

I say go for the mustard with the claret hose, I have seen many on the forum do just that. You will find many have personal preferences as to what they wear with what, nothing is wrong with that, there are no kilt police. You will also probably find that your style or preferences will change over time, mine certainly have.

I really like the claret/mustard combo. The House of Cheviot garter ties in claret have lovat blue accent threads in the fringe. It would be a very subtle "tie" in. The Rannock hose come with garter ties and are really nice hose to wear. They have a really nice pattern to the tops too.

As always great advice from Mike (DK). He is always superbly attired and is one of our members who sets the bar in terms of THCD.
