Good stuff there, Nathan. It appears that you had far better advice, kilted role models, and kit than I did back in the day... I'd be embarrassed to post pics of my cobbled together, hodgepodge kilt outfits from junior high school and high school proms I wore them proudly and the crowd probably didn't know any better, but I might have been better off I had just rented the rig!

I'll take a look at my more recent pics (i.e. post-Xmarks) and see if I can come up with any sort of emplotment.

One last pic. This is the Canadian Contingent at the 2000 World University Debating Championship that was held in Sydney, Australia. The dress for that evening's gala was "Black Tie Optional or National Dress".

Given the fact that Canada doesn't have a "National Dress", my debate partner Vijay Sarma and I, who were competing in the masters championship on behalf of Canada, decided it was a great opportunity to demonstrate Canada's multicultural story visually. He wore his Indian kurtha pajama and I wore my kilt. It was a big hit among the Canadians and others alike - particularly the Indian and Scottish delegations.

Nice story, Nathan, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so there are a few thousand there!

Wonderful photos. Thank you. I, alas, do not have such a long time owning a kilt but you state it very well that if it is good quality it can last for decades. Congratulations.

First, thanks for sharing those!! It's always cool to see people who have been kilted most of their lives.

I don't seem to have a single pic of my first kilt, which my grandmother made. Here's the earliest pic I can find, in my 2nd kilt, MacDonald of the Isles Hunting, which likewise my grandmother made; I would have been 19 or 20 at the time

another photo of that kilt... I found matching hose quite by accident

Around 1982 in our band uniform, bearded now

In the 1980s in my extremely matchy-matchy kit of the time

At the same time in the band's new kit

Well well that was long ago; here is how I appeared when piping at a Burns Supper in 2011

And one of the most recent pics, this December

Proud Mountaineer from the Highlands of West Virginia; son of the Revolution and Civil War; first Europeans on the Guyandotte

Good stuff, OCR. You've been playing the pipes a long time, eh? Do you have any recordings? Some of those pics look like they could be album covers...
