Turpin was publicly remembered, along with other friends and family who had passed this year, last weekend during the Opening Ceremony of the Bethabara Highland Games in Winston-Salem. After the list of names was read, I had the honor of piping Amazing Grace in their memory.

Well done, David. By chance do you have any photos of this event?

Note: this picture was taken at the reception after Turpin's memorial service. There were more kilted folks there earlier, but at the time the photo was take we were the few remaining. About 200 people attended the service and about half of them showed up afterwards at the house including some terrific Celtic musicians who held an impromptu session.

    The 'Parting Glass'

Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
    To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all

    [Chorus]
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

    La La

But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

    [Chorus]

Good night and joy be to you all.

Notable in absence from the photos was Jim Killman, thescot, who had other obligations and had to miss. I should note that in addition to arriving early to deliver haggis, and being the officiant at the service, he took on extra to bring me a choice of sporrans, as I felt my nightstalker inappropriate for the occasion. In the upper picture, my leg is the one with claret hose and grey garter; above you'll note a very nice pigskin sporran I thought about perfect. This gesture, and indeed this whole thread, reveal the value of participation here on this forum.

Sadly, I've been away from XMarks for most of the last 6 months. I was thinking about a new sporran and wanted to touch base with Turpin since I had met him here in Denver and a couple times in Atlanta. He will truly be missed.

I too have been away from the forums for awhile and I was very sadden to hear this news. I was always amazed by his sporran creations and the unwavering kindness he showed many of us on x-marks. My condolences to to his family and many friends.

Condolences to Family and Friends, and extended family including here at XMTS.
His memory and stories will live on in each and every person who's lives he touched.
When the bagpipes play, when the stones are thrown, the Caber are tossed, when the glasses are raised, Turpin will remain here in heart........
